Margaret Bishop

Hi there, I’m Margaret Bishop, with over 25 years of experience as a Funeral and Life Celebrant, my compassionate, friendly nature, my talents and skills have enabled me to become a Celebrant of choice for many.  

Canadian by birth, a New Zealander by choice I’ve lived in this beautiful part of NZ for 45 years as of March28 2026.  YES!  I do speak with the lovely soft vowels of a Western Canadian accent.  

In 1999 I experienced grief and loss after the death of both my Mother and my husband Charlie.  Later that same year, a close friend died.   His family asked me to conduct his funeral, which I willing did.  It was held in a beautiful rural setting under a Macrocarpa tree near the edge of a Beach with family and friends gathered round. Such a privilege to use the gifts I’d been blessed with.  

 I discovered that being of service to others during their time of grief, was extremely important to me, and so in 2001, I chose to attend Celebrant Training with Mary Hancock through Auckland University of Technology.   

Working with people to craft and conduct a ceremony befittingly tailored to, their beliefs, needs and values brings me a deep sense of fulfilment. 

As a woman of integrity it’s my desire to never impose my spiritual beliefs on others.  Neither do I assume that others do not share in a belief system of their own.
