I’m Debbie Hall, an authorised independent marriage and civil union celebrant based in Wanaka but can travel to Southland and around Central Otago. I am a people person and I love love love celebrations in every form. I will work to make your ceremony memorable, full of meaning and uniquely yours. If you want a themed wedding, an elopment, a surprise wedding, a small intimate affair or a ceremony with 100 of your closest friends – let’s make it happen!

I believe marriage should be affordable for everyone so let’s discuss options in an obligation-free meeting. As well as weddings, I can undertake any of life’s ceremonies and rituals – commitment ceremonies, vow renewals, pet funerals, celebration of life eg: living funerals, baby naming, separation/new beginning ceremonies, reunions, birthdays and anniversaries.

Why Me?

Because I know this is all about you – your values, your wishes, your memories and your love. I am inclusive of all religions, cultures and sexual orientations. I think of myself as a storyteller, your storyteller. My Mum was an author and I too love the written word. We will work together to make an unforgettable love-filled ceremony.

I’m qualified

Surprisingly, training is not mandatory in Aotearoa for celebrants but I believe training is crucial for a profession as important as this one. I have passed Marriage Celebrant Essentials, Ceremony and Celebration and Marriage Celebrant Mastery qualifications from the Celebrant School of New Zealand. I am also a member of CANZ Celebrants Aotearoa – Celebrants Association of New Zealand. All members abide by a strict protocol and code of ethics. I am also qualified in the school of life – have worked with and cared for all people from all walks of life, have involvement in the Rainbow community, and am always working on my skills including undertaking te reo and toastmasters.

About me

I’m a glass half full chick – friendly, energetic, life-loving and yes, a little quirky. I believe life should be a celebration. I bring a lot of life experience and empathy for people’s journeys to the party.

As Forrest Gump says “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are gunna get.”

I got a real assortment. After farming for most of my life in Southland and married for 35 years we are now both happily separated and on different journeys. I moved to Wānaka where I’m very fortunate to live against the mountains and lake with my dog Indy. I also have three awesome adult children out in the world living their best lives. 

I am actively involved in the community and can be found zooming around on my electric scooter, yellow Jimney or “Gladys” my little celebrant morris minor car, she is glorious.
