Celebrant Training College

Holding Space. Honouring Lives.

By Debbie Woodfield, Celebrant Training College

Funeral celebrancy asks something different of us.

It calls for gentleness, careful listening and the ability to be present with people at one of the most difficult times in their lives. It also requires skill: knowing how to gather the right stories, shape them into a meaningful ceremony, and stand confidently in the role when emotions are running high.

Our Funeral Celebrancy Course is designed to help you develop those skills with care and confidence.

Across two days, you’ll explore how to:

Listen deeply and uncover the stories that truly matter

Write a funeral ceremony that is respectful, personal and authentic

Create a ceremony that supports rather than overwhelms those who are grieving

Develop the quiet presence and confidence the role requires

You’ll have opportunities to practice, reflect and receive constructive feedback. As one recent student told us, that detailed guidance gave her a “much clearer and informed understanding” of what’s needed in this important role- and greater confidence to move forward.

Whether you’re new to celebrancy or an experienced marriage celebrant wanting to expand your work, this course will give you a strong foundation for entering funeral celebrancy thoughtfully and professionally.

Upcoming courses:

12 -13 September – Christchurch

19 – 20 September – Zoom

10 – 11 October – Auckland

Funeral celebrancy is meaningful work. We’ll help you do it well.
