Is your BDM celebrant profile up to date?

In the latest Ngātahi newsletter from Births, Deaths and Marriage, Registrar-General Russell Burnard is encouraging celebrants to log in to the self-service portal and check that their personal, professional and public profile information is correct.

Keeping these details current helps ensure the information held about you is accurate and allows people using the Locating a Celebrant service to find the right celebrant for their needs.

What to check

Start by reviewing your contact details, including the spelling of your town or city. Place names can appear in several forms, so make sure yours is spelt correctly and includes any appropriate macrons. For example, the correct spelling is Whangaparāoa, with a macron over the fourth “a”.

Celebrants Aotearoa members should also check that their current financial membership and membership number are recorded correctly.

If you have successfully completed the Celebrants Aotearoa validation process, check that your VCANZ status is included. Validation is an optional reflective professional development process available to CANZ members. The VCANZ designation, with the “V” standing for “Validated”, may only be used following a successful application.

You can also list up to three celebrant-related qualifications or competencies. These may include:

  • Current financial membership of The Celebrant Guide, or the successful completion of one of its training modules
  • A Certificate in Celebrant Studies or Diploma in Celebrant Studies from The Celebrant School
  • A Certificate in Marriage Celebrancy or Diploma in Celebrancy from the Celebrant Training College
  • Relevant skills or competencies, such as the ability to kōrero in te reo Māori.

Help people find you

Through the celebrant self-service portal, you can ask Ngātahi to publish additional information about you on its Locating a Celebrant service.

This can include:

  • Your email address
  • Your home or mobile phone number
  • Your celebrant-related website
  • Your Māori iwi
  • Your profile photograph
  • Your exact location through Google Maps
  • Up to three celebrant-related qualifications or competencies.

An accurate and complete profile makes it easier for people to learn about your experience, skills and services when searching for a celebrant.

Take a few minutes to log in to the self-service portal, review your information and update anything that has changed.
