If you are attending our National Education Programme sessions, you will be pleased to know that the programme includes sufficient Professional Competencies to meet the Professional Development requirements for your VCANZ application. The relevant competencies are noted against each event.
You can review the VCANZ Overview here, and consider applying for Validation if you meet any of the following criteria:
(a) You have been a member of Celebrants Aotearoa for at least two years; or
(b) you have completed a full training diploma or certificate (which waives the two-year membership requirement); or
(c) You have recently joined Celebrants Aotearoa but have been working as a celebrant for more than two years and can provide evidence of your experience and ongoing professional development.
As part of our agreement with BDM to deliver registry ceremonies across New Zealand, we are keen to support more members in facilitating them. A successful VCANZ application is the first step in this process.
This is particularly important in regions outside the main centres, where there is currently a shortage of celebrants for registry ceremonies.
BDM requires celebrants who deliver Registry Ceremonies to hold VCANZ. They want assurance that couples are served by celebrants who have demonstrated competency in delivering ceremonies and have completed a high standard of professional development. While some of our members think this standard is too high for what they consider a simple ceremony, challenging situations can often arise.
