Bruce Hopkins

Kia ora, I’m a registered marriage celebrant, experienced funeral officiant and MC.

I have an extensive background in the performing arts and storytelling. I aim to bring authenticity, warmth, and a steady hand to what are some of life’s most important moments.

I’ve spent over 40 years as a professional actor, including the lead support role of Gamling in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Earlier in my career, I danced with both Limbs Dance Company and Black Grace. In 2017–18, I created and hosted the RNZ podcast The Long Way Home, documenting my 3000km solo journey along Te Araroa trail.

Comedy has also played a part in my life — I was one half of the duo The Golden Holdens (aka Des & Les), hosting shows on 89X, Newstalk ZB, and RadioLive.

Before the arts took over, I trained as a PE teacher, worked alongside my father as a commercial crayfisher, and played representative rugby and water polo.

Above all, I rejoice in being dad to three wonderful adult children and Poppa to four beloved mokopuna.
