Introducing Jo Holley: Your Ceremonial Maestro

With a passion for creating extraordinary moments and a wealth of experience in the wedding industry, Jo Holley is not just your typical Marriage Celebrant. She’s your Event Manager, MC, and Therapist all rolled into one delightful package.

Jo’s journey began in 2013, when she decided to add the title of “Marriage Celebrant” to her already impressive list of wedding talents.

“Countless times, I was a bridesmaid, the event manager or the MC while the questions poured in—could I officiate my friends’ ceremonies too? It seemed like the perfect way to gracefully exit the ”always the bridesmaid” spotlight and duties and tau toko my friends in another way. That was short lived, when I was the bridesmaid and celebrant at the same wedding! 

Attending so many weddings I noticed that many felt like they were cut-and-paste from the last ceremony, not personalised enough and couples weren’t doing all the things in their ceremony they wanted to, so I was compelled to make a change.

My intention was clear: to be there for my whanau and friends and together craft a unique and heartfelt experience, ensure they had the comfort of a familiar face, and someone they could lean on to alleviate the wedding day jitters.

I wanted to be there for the adventurous souls, those wanting to do things their way and those seeking unconventional ceremonies – like my friends who got married in a volcanic crater lake! 

But, most importantly, I wanted to empower every couple to have the ceremony they truly desired, not one dictated by tradition or external pressures. To dance down the aisle if they felt like it, to wear what they wanted, say what they really want to say, – even get married in full costume at Splore!

Becoming a celebrant wasn’t just an escape from bridesmaid duties; it was a calling to help couples create a wedding experience that resonated deeply with their hearts and aspirations, with the least stress possible.”

She ensures that in important moments you’re not going to have the celebrant “taking up space” in your photos, and that the spotlight is kept on the couple at all times. “This is something super important to me, to get out of the way for some of your key moments – like your kiss – you definitely don’t need me grinning away in the background of your photos while you have this moment together”.

With a background in the entertainment industry as an actor, MC and TV host, Jo is a master at creating an emotional rollercoaster for you and your guests, balancing heartwarming moments with humour that will have everyone in stitches. Jo’s genuine care for others shines through in every ceremony she creates in collaboration with you, and if you want to laugh, cry, and feel deeply connected on your big day, Jo has the charisma and wit to make it happen. She also incorporates your guests into the ceremony should you wish, and gets them ready for that moment.

No matter where your heart desires to tie the knot, Jo can make it a reality. She’s well-connected and can recommend trusted photographers, makeup artists, hair stylists, caterers, entertainment options—everything you need to make your wedding perfect.

INTERNATIONAL REACH:

Jo’s expertise isn’t limited to New Zealand. With her Shamanic Ministers Global License, she’s performed legal ceremonies across the globe. Jo also collaborates with fellow celebrants from the Pacific Islands, Bali, and beyond, making international weddings a breeze.  She’s also got the connections for you for local celebrants in different destinations and she’s super happy to pass these on.

No stranger to the world of Celebrity weddings and Renewal of Vows ceremonies. She personally knows the experts you might be working with and has orchestrated numerous private and “magazine” weddings for many notable figures.

THERAPIST:

Known for her unique approach, Jo, a multi modality healing practitioner merges her expertise in hauora / wellness into her couple sessions and the ceremony.  Weddings can be stressful, so it’s important couples have some tools to navigate the journey, and have the best time ever! “Put it this way, I’ve seen it all, even down to couples on the verge of breaking up on the day of the wedding from all the stress!  It’s a transformative experience.  It’s ALL the emotions, and it’s a journey that can be a big undertaking. But, with the right support tools in place, especially around self care, communication and boundaries – it can be positive and fun.  So with this in mind, I throw some tools and offer sessions for couples to pick up if they would like help with their emotional and spiritual well-being”.
